Worried about the prospect of encountering ferocious-looking dogs whilst walking? For many years we have recommended this US-manufactured product in our guide books - it's a great help in deterring aggressive animals. Originally, we simply endorsed the product and Landscapes users had to order it from the importers, but it has been greeted so enthusiastically by walkers that for the last few years we have stocked the Dog Dazer ourselves. We give details here so that if you are interested in obtaining one, you can read more about the product and, if you wish, place an order (see below). We only sell the GENUINE U.S.-manufactured product. We ALWAYS have it in stock for immediate despatch. Please do not confuse this product with other, cheaper, imitations.

These quotes indicate how effective the Dog Dazer ultrasonic aid can be at deterring unwanted attentions from unfriendly or aggressive animals encountered while walking, cycling or trekking. The Dog Dazer is a very reassuring product to have in your pocket because, alas, a hazard in some countries is the risk of coming across guard dogs or strays that can be at large on public rights-of-way. It's fine for dog lovers; they can often make friends with even the most aggressive of animals. It's not so for those of us who are afraid of dogs. For anyone who is apprehensive of coming across dogs while exploring the countryside, the hand-held, pocket-sized Dog Dazer can be invaluable. It works by emitting a high-pitched sound (inaudible to humans) which aggressive dogs (and many other animals) dislike. Confronted by the sound, even the most ferocious dogs usually back off and cease to be a nuisance, (Note, however, that the sound, though disliked by cats and other animals, cannot harm them). We stress that this product has maximum effect on aggressive dogs - it should not be used or tested with amicable pets.

The Dog Dazer weighs less than four and a half ounces (130g) and is compact in size: 4.5 x 2 x 1.3inches (11.5 x 5 x 3.5cm). It is made of tough plastic and has a steel clip to fit on a belt for easy access. It works at distances up to about fifteen feet (5 metres). Using it is simple - point it at a threatening dog and press the button on the top of the Dazer for a few seconds. (A red LED light indicates that the Dazer is functioning properly.) If an aggressive dog is approaching you, it will usually stop, make a detour or retreat.
Full details for use are provided with the Dog Dazer, which must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, cautions and warnings. (It is not designed to be effective against all dogs and should not be used with animals that are docile, infirm - or with highly trained animals such as police dogs nor, as mentioned above, friendly pets.) But as regards nasty animals, we have had many letters from users who have reported how effective the Dog Dazer has been when they have come up against unpleasant dogs while walking in Greece, Spain and other southern European destinations. However, there can be the occasional exception. If a dog is deaf, for example, the Dog Dazer is not effective. We mention this because it is simply not possible to guarantee the product will work in every conceivable circumstance. However, we have had sufficient feedback from users of the product who have purchased from us, to know that it does work and can be a godsend when one is confronted by an aggressive animal. Perhaps the best recommendation we can give it is to mention that in the UK, Dog Dazer is regularly used by Royal Mail, the police, doctors, vets, gas and electricity companies, and many local authorities.

PRICE FOR DESTINATIONS IN EUROPE We primarily stock this product for sale to UK customers. We have had problems in the past with occasional losses in transit of Dog Dazers sent to some European addresses. In view of this, we now send Dog Dazers to Europe (including Ireland) by insured mail. We regret we do not accept cheques or Eurocheques drawn on overseas banks but you can pay by cheque drawn on a UK bank OR by sterling bank draft or if you use registered post you can send the payment in cash (sterling bank notes). The price inclusive of registered airmail post is GBP 45.00. If you wish to do this, simply send us a letter ordering your Dog Dazer/s, enclosing your payment.) Outside the EU (for example Norway) there is a possibility you may additionally be charged import tax or local V.A.T. in your own country. EU customers should find that they do not have to pay V.A.T. or sales tax, but should any charges be levied by local Customs we are unable to make any refund of the UK tax.) GUARANTEE
Dog Dazers purchased from Sunflower Books are guaranteed for twelve months from date of purchase. If when the "on" button is depressed the red LED which indicates that it is working fails to light up (other than from battery failure) it will be replaced free of charge provided it has not been damaged. In practice, the product can normally be relied upon to work effectively for many years (as indicated in the users' comments shown above), subject to occasionally replacing the battery, provided it is not misused. (It is especially important that if carried in a pocket or rucksack, care is taken to protect it from coming into contact with coins, keys or other such items.)
We ought to mention that, as with so many electronic products nowadays, in the event of malfunction after the guarantee period has expired, the cost of diagnosing a fault, providing a quotation for repair, and carrying out a repair, (which would in any case involve returning the product to the manufacturer in the United States) is greater than the cost of supplying a replacement. The UK importers from whom we obtain our supplies have no repair facility so in the event of a problem arising with an out-of-guarantee Dazer purchased from Sunflower Books please be aware that as no repair service is available, we would offer to exchange the Dog Dazer for a brand new replacement at a discounted price of £30.00 inclusive of first class post and packing. This undertaking is given for a period up to three years after purchase. After this, in the event of failure the full price would be charged if a replacement is ordered. Naturally, this offer only applies to Dog Dazers purchased from Sunflower Books, details of all past transactions being held on our computer database.
Sunflower T-Shirt
Users of the "Landscapes" series often make new friends when they see others carrying one of the guidebooks. The Sunflower T-Shirt makes it even easier to recognise other "Landscapers".

These classic white garments ("Screen Stars by Fruit of the Loom" brand) have a large Sunflower on the right side with the word "Sunflower" discreetly printed on the left (see sketch). They are available in four sizes (small, medium, large and extra large). Dimension A in the sketch is approximately 19 inches (48cm) for the small size, 20 inches (51cm) for the medium size, 21 inches (53cm) for the large size and 22 inches (56cm) for the extra large size. There can be some degree of variation in manufacture (say up to half an inch either way)... T-shirts are not up to haute couture standard!

With today's fashion being for a fairly loose fitting, an average man with a 38 to 40 inch chest will, for example, be comfortable in the large size whilst a woman with a 34/36 inch bust will probably be happier in the medium size. The length from neck to bottom edge (dimension B in the sketch) is approximately 30 inches (76cm) in each size.
