Landscapes of the Holy Land

This book covers the whole of Israel, southern Jordan and the eastern part of the Sinai Peninsula. While highlighting all the relevant biblical associations, the book concentrates on the countryside from the luxuriantly green Jordan Valley in northern Israel to the southern desert wildernesses. A leisurely pace is encouraged for the all car tours, with ample suggestions for where to stay overnight en route from the poshest hotels to Bedouin tents.

The book assumes the visitor will be based in Israel initially (7 car tours, 33 walks). Hiking is a much-loved Israeli pastime, and the country abounds with waymarked routes. We've sampled the best: there's something here for everyone, from strolls round Jerusalem to strenuous hikes in the Negev.

From Israel the book takes you into Jordan, where a long car tour leads from Amman down the King's Highway via Petra (4 walks) and Wadi Rum to Aqaba. Eilat lies just across the border, and from here another car tour brings you to the door of St Katherine's Monastery in the Sinai's High Mountain Region (6 walks) a walkers' paradise, especially if you are willing to camp out.

"What a great little book new to the series. We were in Israel in August and although it was 100+ every day, we walked several routes. Walk 9 was excellent but quite popular; Walk 12 was wonderful and deserted. The kibbutz organisation is brilliant. Cheap, spotlessly clean and welcoming. We stayed in three, all booked by fax in advance from the UK. We had a wonderful holiday." (S.T., Fife)

"I hired a car for part of my time and came to rely heavily on your book. It was incredibly informative and helpful. It gave me access to sights and experiences that I would otherwise have passed by. It was particularly helpful driving up from the Jordan into the Golan and around the north. Congratulations on a useful, readable and informative book." (D.N.J., Northampton)

IMPORTANT: Alas the unstable situation between Israel and Palestine means that few people opt for this as a holiday destination nowadays. Because of this we have not reprinted the book and it is now out of print, so booksellers are unlikely to be able to meet orders for it. However, Sunflower still has copies in stock and in case of difficulty in obtaining elsewhere, we can definitely supply it.
